I love teaching and working with children. I was born and raised in Nashville, TN. I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in secondary education. I practiced my student teaching in the field of Early Childhood Development at Nashville’s McGavock High School. I then continued my studies at the University of Tennessee, Nashville, and became certified in the primary grades. I am certified to teach grades 1-12.
I have been teaching at Eakin since 2002. Teaching is very rewarding, as I witness young minds at work, developing, inquiring, and learning. It is my passion to instill in students a love and a desire to be lifelong learners.
I love living in Nashville. I have also lived in Daytona Beach, Florida and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I have traveled the world and have visited more than 15 countries. In 1991, I moved to Copenhagen, Denmark. I lived there for several years as I studied and trained in the discipline of International Ballroom Dance at Sportsdanserforening KAF, Copenhagen, Denmark.
I have also lived in Los Angeles teaching American style and International style ballroom dance. While teaching dance in Los Angeles, I graduated from Academy Pacific, the nation’s first travel and business college, in Hollywood, California.
In 2005, I obtained my masters degree in Instructional Methods from Trevecca Nazarene University.
I love teaching and working with the excellent faculty at Eakin. I enjoy being with and working with young people and their parents. I live in Brentwood with my rescue kitties. My hobbies include children, kitties, reading, music, all needlework, being outdoors, exercise, and visiting with friends. I love diverse cultures, the ocean and beaches, and travel is still one of my life passions.
I can be reached by email at Deborah.Grooms@mnps.org and my planning time is 11:10-12:10.
